San Anatolia di Narco is a Medieval town built on a pre-existing settlement of which nothing has remained, except for necropolis ruins dating back to the 8th-4th centuries B.C. that emerged from excavation carried out last century on the "Il Piano" area, The town’s name derive from Anatolia, a young Roman patrician who was martyred for her beliefs in 253 in Tora (near Rieti). Audace, her jailer and torturer, was executed with her following his conversion. Devotion to the saint was introduced in the Valnerina by the Benedictines.
The urban lay-out is a composite, square plane of even height, enclosed by wall and tower keeps. The Medieval vestiges include some sections of the walls, the tower keeps and an entrance door to the castle, while the inhabited areas have undergone constant change, making way for some small aristocratic palazzos over the centuries.
